scrt Ar[T]k is an evolving transdisciplinary composition made up of Individual Floating Entities (objects, beings, buildings, figures, scores, locations, plans, codes, details, poems etc) that change in relation to each other and themselves with each numbered edition. Further information and images of 'scrt Ar[T]k', are presented on artkhitecture.com
Domestic Extensions, East Molesey:
MuMaGi obtained planning permission for a rear extension and is continuing to develop this project as an artkhitectural concept, experimenting with component re-use, regenerative design and organic materials in the setting of an actualised typical suburban domestic home extension. What is possible within the framework of existing planning rules and what can be done when these rules are pushed to their limits or beyond?
As with all the projects listed below there is a parallel contextual consideration of MuSound, that may emanate from or enhance the experience of the site, the construction process, the materials, techniques and metaphorical compositions for traditional and experimental musical instruments. To be performed in a variety of spaces, transplanting one space to another, grafting the real into the unreal.
'Glamping' Cabins, Columbia:
MuMaGi is developing design proposals for 'glamping' cabins in the Columbian rainforest. The client has requested that the cabins are invisible, set within the landscape and made of local, sustainable materials. The area of rainforest in Los Nevados National Park, is under threat and is home to several endangered species including the Ucumari bear.
StAr[K]ship Earth:
Our rock floating through space, reimagined as an Ark on the Sea of Pleromatica. What is 'pleromatica'? Pleromatica is life force, with parallels in Qi in Chinese culture or Ase in Yoruba culture, so, the Earth as a ship; here a parallel is drawn between the Ark of Noah, that is the future ship upon which not all are going to board. This Ark, and it is StArk choice, between being on or off, will hold whom and how? As we prepare for galactic, or even intergalactic civilisation, with new scientific world views, or models of the cosmos, in what way do we model the Earth, in what way and in what form do we connect with worlds off world? Time to ask a Shaman for whom nothing here is new?
Memphis-Athens-Jerusalem:
Memphis the capital of Kemet (ancient Egypt), Symbolically the mother of Athens and Jerusalem. Here we explore these connections in a city disembodied and re-distributed. Athens, considered the cradle of so called Western civilisation, the ideological mother of the academy and rational thinking, through Socrates, Jerusalem the most important city of the three Abrahamic religions based on divine revelation, and Memphis, where many aspects of both Athens and Jerusalem can be found in religious, political and technological domains however the feminine principle is more dominant here in Mut and Ma'at. Through this lens we make revealing connections between African indigenous knowledge systems with those of Jerusalem and Athens
Xeno-Granada, Andalusia:
A city re-seen. A city seen with the help of plants, one that traverses time-frames, is both situated in the ancient and the futuristic, and criss crossed by the flight paths of alien space craft, craft jumping dimensions, that are existing behind the veil of our commonly experienced reality. Xeno-Granada exists on Planeta Tierra, not Earth, that is a simulcrum of Earth, that we stand on but is not a home we are accustomed to. This becomes apparent with the weird things that we see and hear here in xeno-Granada which seems to be one of the planetary hubs of inter dimensional civilisation. The sky looks like the sky but does not look quite the same as we observe our home, Earth, shimmering in the night sky, just a dot, appearing like a star, shimmering all the more so for reasons that will be revealed.
Fifteen Future Steppes:
Weaving a future for the steppes. The steppes linking Eurasia through an ecosystem, a land of nomadic pastoralists and horse backed warriors, predecessor to the Silk Road, a land defining a geopolitcal arena connecting east with west, Yin and Yang with Rational ontologies. The route of Ghengis Khan, a mysterious land to those in the west, what can come of proposing future distributed developments of this area, and how it may connect with the rest of the world?
Place Making for the Erased:
How do we give platform to the erased, those who are left out, silenced and deleted from society, from history, from discourse and from public space? With thousands of species being made extinct, languages, cultures, knowledge being destroyed in epistemecide; the exclusion of some from the centres of power, from the stages and lecterns from which ideas are spread. How do we make place for the erased or almost erased to save or resurrect?
Something About Jamaica:
Connectivity, of an island drenched in history and brimming with potential. The island connects Africa, China, India, Europe and the Americas, the island is bounded, and mined. Plantations embodying capital extraction from land, from the bodies of people forced into labour for no gain. Land of resistance, land of rum, pirates and reggae. The island seen as a stationary ship at sea, it may be developed, integrating its natural ecosystems, liberating the soil, liberating the people from lack of educational access and connecting world wide economic opportunities in emerging technologies.
Realms of Capital Relations:
Exploring, suspending and disintegrating social capital relations. A building made of money, embedding capital relations in each brick, each component of structure, from the miners that extract ores to fabricate metals to the bankers who dish out loans to developers. How dow we intervene in these capital relations, through the process of designing, building, and inhabiting space?
Spatial Integration of Discipline:
Integrating atomised, alienated disciplines. With each of us specialists, divided by walls of understanding from different perspectives, how can we construct to integrate knowledge systems for increased levels of cross fertilisation of ideas. At the same time imposing filters, boundaries that allow the concentration of knowledge development?
Concretising Modalities of Cognition:
A space for unified and individuated sensual, aesthetic, and scientific forms of logical experience. Space of Reasons for the Myth of the Given? Promethean vs Perspectivist models integrating the pre-pre-neo-platonic, mystic computations reintroducing the animistic while including an immanent and transcendent multiplicity of one.
Transcendant Vertical City:
An ecological vertical city. A city made up of organic materials, reclaimed materials, a circular economy, built by liberated construction workers with nice dwellings to go home to, some within the city. A vertical tower uses less material for the same floor space as a horizontal development. This vertical tower perhaps generates its own energy or plugged into an energy sharing network. Aspects of it are living material. Spacial arrangements encourage a play of private spaces and public spaces, interstitial spaces where public meets private at the boundary. Polyvalent spaces where adaptations can be made. Public arenas for debates, concerts, performances, lectures. Research laboratories, offices, studios, manufacturing hubs and ports. A city that grows and decays, regenerates nature, providing habitation for wildlife, and does not kill birds in flight!
Octologia:
MuMaGi activies are built upon a continually evolving set of principles and a growing number of ethical, theatrical and pragmatic concerns; developed and explored within the pages of eight evolving ar/t/khitectural books:
The Mumagi Book
The Mumagi Book explores a number of epistemological and ontological questions, deconstructing existing realities and constructing new propositions. Simultaneously it integrates philosophy with art, poetry and music theory. As an object it is a city to explore and a cosmology, an experimental propositional treatise on self-cultivation and a mystery wrapped into one. Written in an informal non-academic manner, that can be easily understood by anyone, it bridges simple with complex subjects ranging from cybernetic theory to musings on the nature of God and hidden realities. It developed its own vocabulary for a proposed 'mumagi culture', including a dictionary of 'mumagi' terms invented by the author, terms for concepts or combinations of concepts that have no parallel in regular language. Constructing language and synthesising knowledge forms, it forms the basis of attempts to perceive the world from beyond the transcendent limits that constrain us as we navigate our everyday institutional and cultural structures. Intellectually stimulating at times as well as playful, fun and also pragmatic the 9th edition is currently in the process of being written.
The UnKnown
The UnKnown is a book of not knowing, how does one write such a book? It is a collage of photographs, sketches and musings sometimes glitch, broken torn apart, attempts to legislate on relationships it is nonsensical and at the same time contains sense making devices.
The Symphonic Multiverse
The symphonic multiverse, a map of the universe? No! A map of the multiverse!!! ... cartogrophies of metaphysical orbital relationships between meta-planets and galactical-modalities. The author used this to explore the known environment perceiving hidden connections and worlds around opening up taken for granted space to a world of possibilities hidden in plain sight. As a tool for improvisation both figuratively and in actuality enabling and encouraging discoveries and new connections to be made.
The Codex
The Codex is a Data Soup, it allows possibilities to arise, spores of potentialities, some will lay down or float superfluous, they may be useful in the past or later to be resurrected. A data soup of sounds, materials, techniques, symbols, idioms, typologies, visions, dreams, tools, formulae, sketches, research, laws, regulations....from the data soup arises all....by recombinations, transformations and replacements........
A Taxonomy of Beings
Human and non human beings, hyper entities, hyper objects such as electric grids, international shipping networks, real or imagined, blue, red or purple space entities, non-entities, non-being-beings. Cataloguing being but also preparing to decay ontology, in considering it, moving away from 'being' to something beyond subject-object and the limits of individuation.
A Kind of Joy
To write about joy would be difficult, but a kind of joy maybe easier, and also a challenge still. After all if we are to be joyful, why would we be writing about it? Well It maybe a documentation of modes of obtaining a kind of joyful state, or different ways in which one can experience a kind of joy through architecture, music or other means. Currently this is in sketch form, embryonic, pages may be removed the whole thing rewritten or redrawn entirely.
Eschatological Narratives
Who is to say that our current scientific understanding of the extent of the universe is going to remain the same one thousand years from now? Looking back to our age, our scientific knowledges built as they are upon the interpretation of data gleaned from prosthetic extensions of our bodies; microscopes, telescopes etc will seem like the creation myths of so called 'primitive' societies who, just like us, built their narratives based on what they knew. So the end of the world, by the way what world? Is there a world? What world are we talking about ending? Lets say life as we know it biologically for many worlds have already ended, the world of the pre-christian, pre-modern, the world of the home craft, many worlds continue to end. Eschatology, the end of times, surely coincide with the begining of times?
The Eighth Book
The 8th book is a mix of the other 7 books producing new combinations of information and concepts for the development of Ar/T/khitecture and Musound.
SCRT Worlds:
MuMaGi is also the curator of scrtworlds.com, a selection of portals to hidden worlds, invisible dimensions and secret pathways channelled by artists and other intermediaries of the unknown...
